The Peace Sculpture is unveiled

On June 7th, 2004, the unveiling of the Jim Havens Peace Sculpture was officially carried out by Ruskin Bond, acclaimed author and longtime friend of Woodstock. Principal David Jeffery expressed the gratitude of the school: "It is a fitting addition to Woodstock's landscape, and will, I am sure, be a feature of yearbook photographs for years to come. Its theme of peace is most appropriate to a school such as ours, where we see students from a wide variety of backgrounds living and working together in harmony, and taking that mutual understanding into the world with them as they leave."

Two locally-based members of the Class of '57, Mr. David Fiol and Mrs. Sylvia Skinner Mahindroo, attended the unveiling and shared in reading a letter on behalf of the class from Jerry Howard, project coordinator, which contained the following words: "As a class, we feel that this Peace Sculpture represents the spirit of what Woodstock School was to us. It represents what we hope for Woodstock in the future as it impacts the lives of children from Southeast Asia and the world. It is the privilege of the Class of '57 to present this special gift to Woodstock School on the celebration of its 150th anniversary. We hope that Woodstock will always be a model for quality education and provide positive living experiences for a diversified student body - in Peace."
