Inter-school cross country
On September 23, 2006, schools from all over Mussoorie gathered at Woodstock for the annual cross country meet. Participating schools were St. George College, Oak Grove School, Wynberg Allen School, Waverley Convent, and, of course, Woodstock School. This event was superbly coordinated by Mr. Ajay Mark, the head of the Physical Education Department at Woodstock.
The senior (11th and 12th grade) boys and the junior (7th & 8th grade) girls kicked off the morning with a strenuous race of 8 km. for the boys and 3 km for the girls. The crowd cheered as Woodstock's Brett Mann ran triumphantly around the bend, winning first place in a race of 31 other young women. Woodstock is also very proud of Yangla Lama, who came in second out of the Woodstock team in this race and lopped off one minute from her personal record. Miles Grimshaw finished in the top ten of the Inter (9th and 10th grade) boys' race, and his teammate Sung Ho is acknowledged for being the most improved runner on the team. The Inter boys' race was 6 km. The junior boys ran a 4 km race. The fifth and sixth races were run by the sub-junior (5th and 6th grade) boys and the Inter girls, who ran 3 km and 3.5 km races respectively. In the final races, the sub-junior girls ran their hardest and completed a 2 km race. Woodstock's Rebekah Blank claimed second place in an arduous 4 km race against 23 senior girls in the last race of the day. Anchal Lochan also ran an excellent race and ranked in the top ten in the senior girls' race.
Congratulations and thanks are due to Mr. Jonathan Mann, Ms. Holly Hay, Mr. Peter Ghosh, Ms. Anne Sheehy, and Ms. Rebecca Grosso, who diligently coached Woodstock's teams this quarter. Special thanks are also due to Mrs. Sanjaya Mark, Mr. Monish John, Mrs. Denise Jeffery, and, of course, Mr. Ajay Mark, without whose help this exciting day would not have been possible. All of the Woodstock cross country teams ran their races with excellent effort and endurance, for which they should be commended.
