Distinguished alumni award dinners

This year's two distinguished alumni received their awards at special presentations in the USA during the summer. Here are two brief reports from alumni staff who were present. You can read more about our Distinguished Alumni Awards, and the recipients here.

Ashok Frank Mayadas '57

In addition to celebrating the 50th anniversary of their graduation from Woodstock, members of the class of '57 celebrated with their classmate, Ashok Frank Mayadas, who received the Woodstock Distinguished Alumni Award in recognition of his significant contributions in the field of computing and, latterly, education and philanthropy. Classmates who were gathered at the Asilomar Conference Center near Monteray, California on August 5th for their 50th reunion, watched a video presentation on Frank's life and career and heard Frank give credit to his Woodstock education, his teachers and friends for motivating him to achieve his life's goals. Frank was presented with a certificate and a shawl by Jane Cummings, Development Director and T.Z. Chu, Director Emeritus, on behalf of the Woodstock Board of Directors.

Jonathan Mark Kenoyer '70

The WOSA North America Council and Chicago area WOSA members gathered on Saturday July 21st at the India House Restaurant in Buffalo Grove, Illinois to pay tribute to 2006/07 Distinguished Alumni Award Winner, Jonathan Mark Kenoyer '70.

The festivities began with hors d'oeuvres and socializing and moved on to a formal awards dinner, and program. David Scott, of the Woodstock School Board of Directors, offered welcoming remarks and was followed by Jane Cummings, Development Director, who provided an audiovisual update on happenings at Woodstock School.

A slide presentation set to music then reviewed Mark's distinguished career and contributions to the field of archaeology - specifically highlighting his seminal work in India at Mohenjodaro and Harappa. Jane then read the Board Resolution honoring Mark for his work, placed a hand-woven Kullu shawl around his shoulders, and garlanded him with marigolds.

Mark presented a beautiful and informative slide show highlighting his childhood in India, and his subsequent work there. The evening was a fine opportunity for some of Mark's classmates, former staff, area alumni, and members of Mark's family to join together in congratulating Mark for his tremendous work and celebrating his fond association with Woodstock School.
