| Hard tacking in the driving rain (Woodstock are in their change strip of blue) |
Football match report
The senior boys played Mussoorie Modern School in a rain-soaked match at the RIMC soccer tournament in Dehra Dun Saturday, 1 September. The rain poured throughout the first half, and the end of the field that Woodstock was attacking seemed more like a pond than a pitch. Woodstock's team showed clear superiority throughout the scoreless first half and seemed to be only hampered by the wet conditions. At the beginning of the second half, the team was able to move the ball around on the ground and produced a number of excellent scoring chances. Meanwhile, Mussoorie Modern was hampered by the near moat in front of the Woodstock goal. Team captain, Montazerul "Monty" Mehdi, scored the first goal of the second half on a penalty kick. Soon thereafter striker, Arish Rajkarnikar, scored a well-taken break away goal to put the game out of reach for Mussoorie Modern. Monty finished the scoring with a brilliantly taken free kick from 25 meters and narrowly missed his hat-trick, clattering a shot off the post in the dying minutes of the game. Overall, the team performed well, with solid performances from members from every grade. The future is indeed bright for Woodstock soccer. On 4 September, the team plays Doon International School, and after that they will go on to play a yet-to-be-determined foe in the quarter finals on Wednesday. Go Tigers
