Board meetings, September 2007
The Woodstock School Board of Directors met for its Annual General Board Meeting at Woodstock from September 20-22. The schedule started with a special Board discussion on Wednesday evening to resolve issues related to the recent process followed in the hiring of a Finance Director for Woodstock School. On Thursday, the individual Board Committees met. These committees, all of which include Board, Staff and administration, are Student Life, Building & Grounds, Personnel, Governance & Nominations, Development Advisory and Education. The Chairs of these committees later reported back to the entire board for necessary recommendations and actions.
Specific actions taken during the meetings include the following:
- Approved the Statutory Audit and Financials for the year ending March 31, 2007;
- Approved an increase of student fees for 2008-09 to provide for improved staff compensation and to cover the real cost of a Woodstock education;
- Approved a Memo of Understanding with Sanjay Narang to work with an outside consultant to develop a School Master Plan;
- Appointed a Core Committee consisting of the principal, Kaye Aoki; Steve Alter, Jeff Thomas, Arvind Ghei & Anshuman Magazine to work with Sanjay Narang to develop the brief for the Master Plan;
- Recommended that the Board continue the search for a Finance Director and Human Resources Director which would include the Principal in the process and require visits to the school campus of individuals recommended for these positions;
- Accepted the resignation of Virgil Miedema as president of the Board;
- Elected Thomas Chandy as President and Dora Warren as vice-president of the Board for 2007-08.
Richard Tangye, Executive Director of the Council of International Schools, the organization assisting Woodstock in the search process for a principal, also led the Board in a special session to address the Board's roles and responsibilities during a time of transition. The Principal's Search Committee also met several times with Mr. Tangye to review the progress of the Search to date, and to extend the application deadline to October 19th .
