High School student is National Merit Scholar
Principal Kaye Aoki announced today that grade 12 student Aiden Lewis has been named a Commended Student in the 2008 National Merit Scholarship Program, a prestigious honor revered by university admissions officers in the United States and abroad. A Letter of Commendation from the school and National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC), which conducts the program, was presented by the principal to this scholastically talented senior.
About 34,000 Commended Students throughout the United States, where the program is based, and also the rest of the world are being recognized for their exceptional academic promise. Although they will not continue in the 2008 competition for National Merit Scholarships, Commended Students placed among the top five percent of more than 1.4 million students who entered the 2008 competition by taking the 2006 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT).
"The young people named Commended Students in the 2008 National Merit Scholarship Program are distinguished by their strong academic performance in this rigorous competition," a spokesperson for NMSC said. The "pursuit of educational excellence can be furthered by publicly honoring these outstanding students and by acknowledging the important role schools play in fostering their development. We hope that this recognition will contribute to their educational opportunities and encourage all students to strive to realize their potential."
Woodstock extends congratulations to Aiden and the entire Lewis family on his outstanding achievement.
