| Rockin' out in Parker Hall |
The 18th of September, Saturday; this was the weekend that everyone had been looking forward to. It wasn't going to be the usual dance or dodge ball, this was the Rock Show and excitement was all around the high school.
During the week, students were running around, trying to form bands, the AV crew got cracking with the new equipment and the SAC (Social Activities Committee) was busy figuring out the logistics of the show. Everyone was geared up and determined to make the evening 'truly electrifying.'
There was a lot of talk about the performances and what to expect. Sareega Shetty, one of the best vocalists here at Woodstock, Chholay Namgay Dorji, a gifted guitarist and Tashi Lama Dorji , a promising bassist were among the few names that always came up. People were especially eager to watch Pranit Budhathoki and Tashi as the two are new students.
The 18th happened to be a birthday for four students and so the show was opened by their friends singing their own version of happy birthday. The rest of the evening was a journey though different forms of rock music over the years. The show had everything ranging from Greenday to Guns n' Roses, and Jet to Chuck Berry. Even songs like Umbrella by Rihanna, Love Song by Sara Bareilles, a Hindi film song and a Japanese number were featured.
During the performance the news came that there were serial bombings in Delhi. A number of people left the hall to call up loved ones in Delhi. Fortunately no one had bad news to tell. We observed a few moments silence before proceeding with the concert.
Afterwards foot tapping numbers like 'Johnny Be Goode' and 'Are You Gonna Be my Girl' had the audience on their feet, dancing and singing along.
After the concert ended, SAC decided to crank up the music. It was a good way to get people's minds off the trouble in other parts of the country. Everyone had a great time and there were few signs of worry. All in all, the rock concert was quite a success and we look forward to the next one.
