Fresh Faces at Woodstock

The Woodstock family welcomed 116 new students to the school for the fall semester. These new students came to Woodstock from 15 different countries, taking the total student strength of the school to 470. Nine of the new students are staff children.

The fresh faces began to arrive as early as Friday, July 31, when the exchange students showed up on campus, many of whom even participated in the Friday evening football games. The majority of the new students came up to the hillside on Sunday afternoon. Most of them were accompanied by their families and friends, and many older siblings who are current Woodstock students or alumni accompanied their younger brothers or sisters, too.

All parents and new students checked-in at the school gate where they received their Check-In cards and then proceeded to their respective residences. New elementary school children who were settled in at Edgehill were allowed to spend an extra night with their parents, while the older students remained in boarding for their first night in Woodstock.

All of the new students and parents were welcomed at the school on Monday morning for new student orientation, which began with refreshments followed by a welcome address from the Principal at the Parker Hall.

Orientation

Orientation for new students was held on Monday and Tuesday, the 3rd and 4th of August. Students in the Elementary and Middle Schools, along with their parents, were accompanied by their respective class teachers, receiving an overview of their curriculum and a tour of their classrooms and shared areas. The students also received network/email training, met the travel secretary and the liaison officer, held music auditions, and paid a visit to the health centre.

Over the two days, the new students in the high school, along with their families, held course registration in the Chemistry Lab, participated in music auditions, received network/email training, and also visited the other departments of the school including the health centre, the travel secretary, and the liaison officer.

Older students returned to campus on Monday evening and mingled with their new friends.

Tuesday afternoon was the time to say goodbye, when the parents of new students finally bid farewell to their children, knowing they would be well cared for.
