Woodstock's football team at the Jackie Memorial Tournament
The boy's football team impressed during the first round of the 38th Jackie Memorial (Open) Tournament at the St. George's College before falling short in their second round game last week. In four games played, the team won two, drew one, and suffered their only loss in a pivotal knock-out game.
The team, headed by coach Tim Raby and captained by senior Kakivi Chishi showed several signs of promise in their matches. Woodstock had five different scorers in their first three games, which included a 4-0 drubbing of Carmen School, beating the Aryan Sports Club 1-0, and drawing their game 1-1 against the Doon Valley School. The team played under challenging conditions, including heavy fog that made the movement at the St. George's pitches extremely difficult to read.
Woodstock crashed out of the tournament after a 4-0 loss to a strong team from the Oak Grove School in a second round knock-out game.
After the tournament, coach Tim Raby commented that he was glad of his players' effort, the highlights of which included a brace in the first game by Chang Yoon Lee, a goal in the second game by new student Benjamin Thapa, and of 10th grader Shivamkar Misra becoming the youngest goalscorer this year.
The team will move on to play a few more friendlies this season before a major RIMC tournament later in the semester. Trials for grade 9-10 students for the school team are also scheduled to be held soon.
