Hockey at the Bazaar
Chak De Woodstock!?! The Tigers were certainly in the mood for hockey this weekend, as Woodstock added flavour to the annual 5-a-side Hockey Tournament held at the 'Appu Ghar' skating rink at the Picture Palace on Saturday, 29th August. Woodstock had appeared in this tournament last year as well, and the school were represented by two boys' teams and a girls' team at the competition.
A total of 16 boys' teams and four girls' teams from Mussoorie and Dehradun took part in the day-long tournament. It was an open competition, which meant that teams could be represented by players of all age groups. A few of Woodstock staff members joined the students to represent the school in the lightning quick hockey matches.
The Woodstock Boys' 'A' team made the school proud by reaching the semi-finals of the difficult boys' competition. They won their first game 2-1, and won in a thrilling penalty shootout in after their second game ended 0-0 at the end of regulation time. Their semi-final match-up ended 1-1, and the team faced another penalty shootout which they unfortunately ended up losing. Woodstock A's goalkeeper Tokuji Tanaka (12th grade) was a star performer for the games, making several impressive saves in the course of the games.
The Boys 'B' team performed well, too, winning their first game 1-0, before losing 0-2 in their second. Woodstock Girls stood strong against some tough competition in their matches, but they lost both games 1-2 and 0-1 respectively. ECP teacher Shubra Chundawat played particularly well for the girls' team.
It was an Open Bazaar day for the High School, which meant that several of the students walked down to the rink to voice their support for the school.
