Intermediate Boys match

Box Soccer Tournament rocks the gymnasium

The sounds of heaving kicks, bouncing balls, hysterical audiences, 80s pop music, and one overenthusiastic commentator. Where else could we be but at the Inter-House Box Soccer tournament!?! For two weeks, the Win Mumby gymnasium became an indoor football court, with Middle and High School students kicking their way through this exciting competition.

In the Sub-Junior, Junior, Intermediate, and Senior levels, matches were played for boys and girls between the three houses: Eagles, Merlins, and Condors. In the Middle School, the Eagles swept their way to victory, winning the Sub-Junior Boys and Girls division, and the Junior Boys and Junior Girls divisions. The teams were supported with a loud and cheery audience.

The High School divisions were more balanced. Both Merlins and Condors ended with the same number of final points in the Inter Girls, Senior Girls, and Senior Boys divisions. Merlins had the advantage on goal difference amongst the Inter Girls and Senior Boys, whereas Condors won out by a larger goal margin in the Senior Girls. The Eagles won the Inter Boys division.

The lightning fast play was complemented by the electric atmosphere in the gymnasium. The footballers played to a musical soundtrack compiled by the gym staff and students, and the highlight of the tournament was definitely the school's newfound commentating talent: PE teacher Mr. Steve Luukonen. "Mr. L" entertained the students on the mic as the goal glut progressed on the court!
