Fall concerts
The traditional Fall concert series was spread over three nights at Parker Hall during the last week in November. As always, the performers gave of their best, singing and playing with commitment and evident enjoyment. Highlights of the series included two concerto performances by Seniors. Han Sol Lee played violin for the "Winter" movement of Vivaldi's Four Seasons, and she was followed by Isara Laothamatas performing the first movement of the Elgar 'cello concerto in Em. Both of these classic pieces were well received by the audience. Mr. Ravi Arthur, conducting, particularly commended Isara for having conceived, practised and rehearsed his piece with minimal support from teachers.
Other performances over the three nights were given by the full range of Woodstock musicians: the Beginning, Middle School and High School Choirs; the Elementary/Beginning, Intermediate and Advanced Orchestras, and the Beginning, Intermediate and Advanced Bands. As well as old favourites, there were some interesting new pieces. One that caught the ear was "Ancient Voices", by Michael Sweeney, performed by the Intermediate Band, and including sebveral bars of pencil-tapping on music stands, as well as other interesting percussive sounds. Copies of all of the concert programmes, with all of the performers listed, are included below.
