Students express themselves through movement

Shaun Mcleod, a teacher, academic, choreographer, and performer from Australia, visited Woodstock this week to hold workshops for high-school students in expression and creativity in movement. The workshops, held on Monday the 5th and Wednesday the 7th of October at the Media Centre, captured the enthusiasm of a small group of students who were given an opportunity to let their bodies go free.

Mcleod is a former student of Woodstock (Class of 1979) and coming back for this workshop was also an opportunity for him to revisit the school after 30 years. In his workshops, he stressed that the students who participate don't necessarily have to be skilled dancers, but just be interested in creativity and movement. The workshop gave them a chance to experience movement that is personal and not aligned to any particular style, ballet, tap, jazz, or Bollywood.

Students who participated opined that the workshop was an extremely satisfying experience. 11th grader Gitanjaya Dhakal said, "It was great fun to let my body go free - I felt very relaxed afterwards. If I get a chance, I'll definitely do something like this again!"
