Woodstock alum Omair Ahmad nominated for the Man Asian Literary Prize
On October 15th, at the Frankfurt Book Fair, Omair Ahmad (Woodstock Class of '93) was announced amongst the five person shortlist for the 2009 Man Asian Literary Prize, the leading regional prize for unpublished novels in English. The shortlist was chosen by an international judging panel.
Omair was nominated for his book 'Jimmy the Terrorist'.
The winner of the 2009 Man Asian Literary Prize will be announced on Monday, 16 November 2009 in Hong Kong. The winning author will receive US$10,000 and can look forward to publication and wider recognition in the English-reading world.
Omair Ahmad was educated in Saudi Arabia, India and the United States. He has worked as a political adviser on Kashmir, national & international security and legislative issues, as well as a journalist in the US, UK and India. He is the author of The Storyteller's Tale (2009), Sense Terra (2008) and Encounters (2007).
The other nominees in the award's shortlist are: Eric Gamalinda (The Descartes Highlands), Siddharth Chowdhury (Day Scholar), Nitisha Kaul (Residue), and Su Tong (The Boat to Redemption).
