The ensemble, conducted by Mr. Aloke Maiti, closes the concert

Indian Music Concert

The Spring Indian music concert took place in Parker Hall on 28th April. Mr. Aloke Maiti, Indian Music teacher, had put together a varied programme which showcased the emerging talents of a number of the Middle and High School students. Ragas were performed with sitar, santoor and voice, and one as a santoor and sitar duet. Three of the ragas were composed by Mr. Maiti, and two others were classics of the north Indian repertoire, "Bihag", by Ustad Barkat Ali Khan, and "Mishra Pahadi", by Pandit Shiv Kumar Sharma.

The final piece traditionally is performed by an ensemble of musicians, and for this concert Mr. Maiti had composed a piece called "Naad", consisting of four ragas which took the listener through the day from morning to midnight. The ensemble featured seven tabla players, fiver sitars, santoor, swarmandal and two voices.

All of the pieces were introduced by students, and appreciation was expressed both to Mr. Maiti and to the tabla accompanist, Mr. Gurmeet Singh.
