After Eight

Grade 8 students met at Hanifl Centre on May 19 for a Transition Workshop to prepare them for High School. The afternoon opened with a panel of teachers discussing the similarities and differences between Middle and High School, answering general information questions posed by Mrs. Jeffery and introducing the activities to follow. Students then rotated around four group sessions: Personality indicators with Personal Counsellor, Brian Meyer; Learning Styles with Assistant Principal, Kaye Aoki; Academics, Conduct, Responsibility and Self-Motivation with Head of High School, Chris Cooke; and Courses and Transcripts with Guidance Counsellor, Kevin VanZee. The Grade 8's found the afternoon interesting, informative, and helpful. They also were relieved to discover that the High School staff (at least these four) were approachable, open to their questions, and even fun!
