NESA Winter Training Institute
"A two-day specialty conference for about 250 delegates is designed around a variety of topics of interest to specialists. Keynotes, institutes and single presentations are offered, as are teacher-produced workshops. The 2007 Winter Training Institute will be held on January 27-28 at The American Embassy School, New Delhi, India. Themes: Understanding by Design (UbD), Physical Education, Visual Arts, Counseling in the International School, Collaborative Cultures to Improve Student Learning."
The recent NESA (Near East and South Asia Association of Schools) Conference, held at AES, Delhi was attended by 14 Woodstock staff who took part in the various workshops on offer. Feedback was given at our February staff retreat by a number of the participants who emphasised the practical nature of the sessions. Our colleagues who are new recruits to the teaching profession found the "Understanding by Design" workshops particulaly helpful and demonstrated some of the key points to us. It is also good for those of us who have been teaching for longer than we care to remember to be reminded of the importance of enabling students to understand the bigger picture in all our lessons.
Mrs Sanjaya Mark, chairperson of the retreat, and Head of Elementary School acknowledged the interest expressed by colleagues after listening to the feedback from the NESA delegates and requested that the issued raised be further discussed at the regular school meetings. I am sure this will prove beneficial and demonstrate that this conference was very good value indeed.
