Grades 1 and 2 celebrate the 100th day of school

Grades 1 and 2 celebrated the 100th day of school with many happy events. For the 99 days prior, we had put a straw in a cup for every day of school. When we collected 10 straws, we bundled them in a group of 10. When we had 10 groups of 10, we knew we had been in school for 100 days. To get ready to celebrate, part of our holiday homework was to make a collection of 100 small items to display when school resumed.

We wore 100th day crowns on the 100th day of school. We displayed our collections of 100 items for the rest of the school to see. We collected sand, shells, holiday photographs, and even chili peppers! After lunch that day, we had a special cake with 100 candles on it. We then traced 100 of our shoe prints and set them down in a line along the hallway to measure the distance--100 "feet" stretch a long way!

Later that night, we had a Reading Marathon in the Quad library to see how many books we could read in one evening. Our goal was 100 books. We came in our pajamas and brought stuffed animals, favorite blankets, and parents to help us read our books. We cheered each other on as we read our way to 110 books! After the marathon, we celebrated with hot cocoa and cookies before going home to bed.
