An outstanding Spring concert season
The first two of the Spring Concerts took place on Friday, May 18 and Saturday, May 19, 2007. The first night featured the Intermediate Band directed by Mrs. Rachelle Hugg, the Intermediate Choir directed by Ms. Anne Sheehy and the Advanced Orchestra directed by Mr. Ravi Arthur. One of the highlights of the night was the performance of Les Miserables by the Intermediate Choir accompanied by the Intermediate Band. It was an impressive performance considering the co-ordination required for combining the two ensembles of considerable size and membership. The other highlight of the night was the performance of a composition by Mr. Zingrin Shishak for the strings and woodwind instruments. Entitled 'Longing' the composition exuded the depth of Mr. Shishak's creative potential and ability to bring out musical expression. Maki Miura's performance of the violin solo in Vivaldi's Srping from the Four Seasons was very commendable indeed. The concert ended with Suppe's Light Cavalry Overture performed by the Advanced Orchestra that included strings, wind and percussion.
The second concert featured the Intermediate Orchestra directed by Mr. Ravi Arthur, the Advanced and the Combined Choir directed by Ms. Anne Sheehy and the Advanced Band directed by Mr. David Hugg, the Head of the Music Department. The highlights of the night included the Pink Panther"Theme performed by the Intermediate Orchestra, Accidentally in Love from Shrek 2 performed by the Advanced Choir and the Pirates of the Caribbean performed by the Advanced Band. All of these performances held the audience spell-bound and entranced.
The performances on both the nights reflected the high standard of music education at Woodstock upholding historic traditions. To quote Ms. Kaye Aoki, the present Principal of Woodstock School, "Both concerts were absolutely outstanding this year: quality was consistent and high throughout, and the energy was extremely positive. Thanks also for educating our audience on appropriate behavior and responses-the tone was inviting, clear and positive and the results were very pleasing".
The final concert featuring the Beginning Band, the Elementary Choir, elementary Keyboard ensembles and the Junior Orchestra will be held on Tuesday, June 5, 2007.
