A close-run basketball final

Over the weekend of 18th - 20th April the Woodstock boys' basketball team have been up and down the hill to Wellham's School as participants in the Wellham Boys' School Golden Jubilee All India Basketball Tournament. Following hard on the heels of the school's own Win Mumby tournament, in which the boys' team was eliminated in the semi-finals, this was an opportunity to regain some pride. The Win Mumby winners, Doon School, were eleiminated in the early rounds, but Woodstock fought through to the final where their opponents were the hosts, Wellham School.

What a cliffhanger! After the third quarter Woodstock were leading by 3 points. Wellham drew level in the last quarter and with two minutes to go the score was tied at 58-58. Disaster! Woodstock boys gazed in disbelief as two shots bounced off the hoops before Wellham converted their chances and won the game by 63-58.

But what a gutsy performance from the Woodstock boys on their opponents' territory, with barely a voice raised in support. The good news is that this team contained only one senior; next year is looking good, with an experienced group of players at the core.
