Woodstock Tigers finish runners-up at Afzal Khan Basketball Tournament

The Woodstock Boys' Basketball Team - the Tigers - put on an impressive performance last week at the Afzal Khan Basketball Tournament held at the Doon School, Dehradun. From the April 14-17 the boys played in five games, only losing in the final to the team from the Welham Boys' School

Afzal Khan is one of the most prestigious basketball tournaments in North India. The Woodstock team had a stuttering start as they lost to Welham Boys' by 30 points in their first game. They recovered well, beating Delhi Public School and Pinegrove (Shimla) in their next two games. And then they beat a great squad from the Lawrence School (Sanawar) in the semi-finals. They faced Welham Boys in the final again, but despite an improved performance, went down 64-44 to end up with the silver medal.

A stand-out performance in the final was by Gaurav Adhikari who scored 27 points. Other outstanding performers during the course of the tournament were team captain Kakivi Chishi, Taditraj Hazarika, and Matthew Remtluanga

The boys team is back in school now and using the home court advantage to try and succeed in the Win Mumby tournament.
