Young leaders ready to take charge
The student leaders at Woodstock are ones who have been chosen by their peers to represent the voice of Woodstock's student body. Once the student leaders and class representatives had been elected, it was time for the young leaders to discuss their plans and goals for the semester as well as take part in team-building exercises during a Student Leadership Retreat, held on Saturday the 20th of February.
The retreat was held in the Quad area. Soon after breakfast, the members of student council (STUCO) were led by Mr. Suman Mitra through some team-building games and exercises. The students played games such as 'Blind Square' and 'Pipes and Marbles'. Later on in the morning, the students took part in a panel discussion with the faculty to come up with a coherent vision for student leadership in Woodstock.
After lunch in the Quad Dining Hall, Mr. Suman organized a few more team-building exercises. These were followed by group discussions on the semester's plans and objectives and student presentations. Leadership case studies helped the student's and staff to debate on several issues and ways to handle situations around campus.
The student leaders ended the day by going through several critical questions amongst themselves, including ways to strengthen and develop student leadership, important changes to be proposed in the semester, and other challenges and problems that they might have to face as representatives of the Woodstock student body.
The young leaders had dinner together in the Quad in the evening, after which they headed back to their residences, calling an end to a fruitful and thought-provoking day.
