'Climbing Tigers' make an impression at Mussoorie Climbing Competition
In less than a year, the climbing wall at Woodstock's new gymnasium has grown to be immensely popular and has helped develop the students into little climbing experts. For the first time, four Woodstock students took part in the prestigious Mussoorie Cup, a lead climbing competition that was held on Sunday May 30th at the ITBP campus. It was an open men's competition featuring expert climbers of all ages from all over the country - the Woodstock students from 9-10th grade were the youngest at the cup and finished better than most participants!
Out of the 70 climbers that took part four Woodstock students, aka, our 'Climbing Tigers', were present - Dongil Chun, Aarit Ahuja, Joy Faucher, and Taehang Lee. Woodstock climbing instructors Mr. Suman Mitra and Mr. Digamber 'Titu' Lall also participated. The students gave a great fight - two of them finished in the top 30, with Taehang at 27th. Even the climbing instructors couldn't beat the little 'Climbing Tigers'!
All four students qualified for the semi-final round. Due to bad weather conditions, the competition was shortened and the semi round was scrapped and only the top eight made it through to the finals.
"This was the first time the students saw a 60-foot wall," said Mitra, "It was a great learning experience for them and we are hoping to take our expert climbers to more competitions around the country."
