Inter-House basketball takes place at the gym

Middle and High School students took part in an inter-house basketball tournament, held for the first time in the new Win Mumby gymnasium. Over the course of two weeks, students played for house pride, representing Eagles, Merlin, or Condor in eight divisions (Sub-Junior, Junior, Inter, Senior, for boys and girls) in exciting basketball action.

In the High School, Merlins won Inter Girls, but Condor won all the other divisions: Inter Boys, Senior Girls, and Senior Boys. They finished first place in all of High School after collecting 110 points. The tournament was a showcase for the finest basketball players in the school before Woodstock teams are assembled for the beginning of the much-awaited basketball season.

In Middle School Eagles and Condor finished joint winners with 70 points a piece. Here is an analysis of the Middle School inter-house tournament by PE teacher Steve Luukonen:

"Overall it was an exciting week with the Eagles dominating the Sub-Juniors, but a mix of great games in the Junior division!!

"The highlight game of the week was Condors vs. Merlins Junior Boys which came down to the LAST MINUTE. It was tied 16-16 with about 30 seconds left!! Condors made a 2-point jumper to take the lead with :08 seconds on the scoreboard. Merlins drove the ball down quickly to set up a final shot, and instead of going for the tie, all they had left was a desperation 3-pointer. The Merlins put up a shot from about HALF COURT............BAM the ball bounces off the front of the rim.....no good.... Condors win! The crowd was on its feet the ENTIRE final minute of that game!! It was awesome!

"The atmosphere in the gym the entire end of the week was full of enthusiasm and support for their houses! Four of the Middle School games were played down at the Ridgewood court, which was also a blast because all of the high school students would stop by and "coach"/cheer for their house.

"I hope the students enjoyed the week, because as ref it was a blast to ref these games! Great sportsmanship and hard work all around! GREAT JOB MS WOODSTOCK!"
