Grades 5 and 6 RE retreat
On Friday 19th March, fifty excited students boarded buses and taxis for their overnight retreat at Himalayan Torchbearers. They were accompanied by staff Dave and Beth Boven, Ray and Julie Husthwaite, Sue Rollins, Alison Mitchell, Pete and Dot Wildman and gamesmaster extraordinaire Steve Luukonnen. The theme was "Joseph" - the one with the coat - and the Bible story was brought to life by presentations, dramas, games and discussions. Joseph's life, traced on a graph, would have shown some seriously high points and some very low points, but he knew that God was with him, and it all came right in the end.
As ever, the food and accommodation were great, there were new spaces for the children to explore and play in, and the Friday night indoor mini-Olympics burned up their energies nicely before bedtime. The students were great - positive, well-behaved and co-operative, and the staff may even have enjoyed the weekend as much as they did!
