7th grade holds fundraising Mela for Tehri Road initiative
It seems that the infectious urge for community service has spread down to the Middle School, too. After students of Grade 10 (Class of 2012) made headlines with their 'Adopt a Road' initiative to clean up the Tehri Road and the hillside around it, 7th Grade students (Class of 2015) lent a hand in their own way - the seventh graders held an after school Mela to raise money for the 'Adopt a Road' initiative on Monday, 24th May, through which they raised approximately 22,000 rupees!
7th graders organized this fundraiser at the Quad which included bake sales, food stalls which included the popular sandwiches, song dedications, an opportunity for visitors to get their T-shirts tie-dyed, face-painting, and games such as Face-Splashing, Lucky Draw, and the 'Candle Game'.
One of the most attractive stalls was the arts and crafts sale, which sold fascinating paintings, sketches, craftwork, origami, and coasters made by Middle and Elementary school kids.
With the help of the local community and other staff and students at Woodstock, the Class of 2012 has already managed to place nine new steel dustbins on the Tehri Road stretch from the school gate to the top of Mullingar Hill. On May 8th, over 200 people volunteered to clean up the rubbish, separate recyclable trash, and raise awareness about cleanliness in this area.
Grade 10 class governor Priyankar Chand says that the money raised through the Grade 7 Mela will be used to put up a projected five awareness-raising signs on the Tehri Road. Grade 7 will eventually become the successor to leading the Tehri Road initiative after the current Grade 10 graduates.
