Outstanding WS athletes get awarded

To award and recognise the finest Woodstock athletes over the past year, the Sports Awards Ceremony (or Sports Tea) was held at Media Centre Auditorium on Wednesday, May 26th. Students from Elementary up to Seniors that participated in several inter-house or inter-school events and the outstanding performers in different sports were honoured by the PE department and the rest of the school's administration.

Seniors Kakivi Chishi and Sareega Shetty were named the Athletes of the Year.

The guest of honour, head of High School Mr. David Anderson spoke to the assembled students about his own sporting background, which included exceptional track performances and a long career as an amateur football player and professional football referee.

Mrs. Sanjaya Mark gave certificates to outstanding athletes in Elementary and Middle School. Coaches and trainers of other sports such as cricket, cross-country, basketball, football, and athletics gave varsity pin awards and most valuable player certificates to the standout performers. The inter house awards were handed out by Mr. Stephen Alter.

Another Woodstock tradition is the awarding of the 'W' pin and certificate, given to the students who participated in the most number of inter-school and inter-house events. The 'W' pin this year was handed to Kakivi Chishi, Sareega Shetty, and Jai Nalwa. For grades 9-10, Tina Malik and Uzir Thapa were recognised for their contribution to inter-school and inter-house sports.

The event was organised and overseen by PE department head Mr. Ajay Mark, who offered the Welcome and the Closing remarks.
