Project Bandaloop in Woodstock
From October 23-27th, Woodstock School hosted the renowned vertical dance company, Project Bandaloop, founded and directed by Woodstock graduate, Amelia Rudolph '82. The performance was in the Win Mumby Gymnasium on Monday, 26th October.
The troupe performed four glamorous "vertical" dances, hanging on ropes in the new gymnasium, leaving the Woodstock family in awe. The ropes seemed to be part of their bodies as they crawled gracefully and gently, almost as if they were dancing on the moon!
Project Bandaloop offered a workshop for those who were captivated by their presentations. It was an extraordinary experience, as we were able to bring together dance and rock-climbing in the gym's climbing wall room. Although the troupe only taught a few simple moves, we were able to put them together to create a short, impressive dance.
I realized the difficulties that the dancers had been through and the amount of time and effort that they had put in for those fabulous performances. Despite getting hurt by the harnesses and getting headaches from hanging upside-down, their determination and motivation made everything possible. Along with the dances, they passed on some climbing techniques to us as we were eager to learn how to climb better.
