Helping with the gym
The new gymnasium was built - but who was to run it? Woodstock School were blessed by the contributions of Timothy and Archana '96 Brammall. Appointed a few days before the opening of the Win Mumby Gymnasium in mid-September, Tim and Archana became essential staff in running and maintaining the gym during their two and half month stay.
"The new gym persuaded us to stay and work here," says Archana, "It's great to see it now being available to our students, who seem to be enjoying the new facilities on a daily basis. They couldn't even envision life at Woodstock without it anymore! The PE department now has a dedicated place to work at instead of being scattered all over the school."
The gym is open from 7:30 AM till 6:00 PM on weekdays, and for a further five hours every Saturday. It hosts 39 PE classes in an eight-day work cycle for Grades 1-10.
The gym's specialty rooms (climbing wall, gymnastics, and fitness room) need constant supervision. Furthermore, an overall supervisor watches over the entire building, scanning the squash courts, table tennis area, and the basketball and badminton courts. With a background in outdoor education, Tim and Archana have been able to contribute to the smooth and constant running of the gym.
Tim adds: "The gym has become an important part of the school's social fabric. Apart for use of the PE department, it has already hosted several other events, such as Project Bandaloop's performance, dances, or the American College fair."
