2020 Vision
What lies ahead for Woodstock School? Over a thousand Woodstock people have been thinking about that question for several years and have taken opportunities to share their ideas. Last winter Woodstock alumni students and staff in towns and cities around the world met in homes to discuss "The Brief," which was a summary of long-range planning that had been previously done. Hundreds of comments and suggestions emerged from these small, friendly and sharing gatherings. All those ideas condensed this summer into a document prepared by the Strategic Planning Coordinating Committee (SPCC) and presented to the Woodstock Board of Directors on September 17, 2011.
The Committee, chaired by Pete Wildman of the Development Department, consisted of Woodstock administrators Amy Seefeldt and Kirsten Bradby, Board members Thsespal Kundan and David Schoonmaker, the past principal, Dr. David Laurenson, the present Principal, Eleanor Nicholson, and the Principal Designate, Jonathan Long. The Committee met several times to share ideas and brainstorm; ideas were further discussed with faculty and staff in small groups during the Professional Development days that preceded the opening of the first semester.
Finally, the group met for a full weekend retreat August 26 and 27 during which they bombarded each other with thoughts, discoveries, and dreams. It was an exciting adventurous time, out of which emerged the present document. At the heart of the document are Desired Learning Outcomes: qualities and skills that we consider to be the foundation for an unmatched Woodstock experience for both students and staff. The underlying belief is that everyone in the community must develop, demonstrate and mentor these Outcomes, thus developing a visionary ethos throughout the school. Since these outcomes are critical for our planning an, our academics and the fulfillment of our vision, I wanted to share them with you. The current version of 2020 Vision proposes future growth of Woodstock in a variety of key areas. You will see these laid out in the centre spread of this special issue of Brown and Gold, together with the Vision Statement that lays down the challenge that Woodstock will become "a beacon of excellence in India and beyond – holding out a uniquely effective educational vision of hope and possibility."
