Board Restructured To Meet New Challenges
The Woodstock School Board of Directors has become increasingly aware that the complexity of the work of the school demands a high degree of engagement, commitment and expertise from the Board, a challenge given further focus by the adoption of 2020 Vision as the school's strategic vision. At the same time, there is an awareness that the sheer size of the current body does not make it easy for members to come together frequently enough to deal effectively with the necessary business. Accordingly, the Board has been working on proposals for a restructuring under a new constitution. It defines two related bodies; a larger representative body, consisting of up to twenty-five persons, termed the "General Body", and a smaller skills-based body of eight to ten members simply called "the Board". The General Body, which will meet once a year, will be made up of stakeholders from various constituencies—alumni, church groups, staff and student representatives, among others. The General Body will also exercise a reviewing role in respect of policy and finance, will confirm nominations to the Board and ratify the selection of the Principal. The Board will be made up of people with specific skills needed to serve the school - such as lawyers, educators, theologians, and project managers. This Board will meet four times a year and will be more directly engaged with the school. The President, Vice-President and Principal will serve on both bodies. The Board is confident that this new structure will make the school more flexible and focused in pursuing the school's renewed vision.
