Woodstock School Enewsletter February 2010

After the long winter break, Woodstock has reassembled for the Spring semester. The week before the students arrived was beautiful - blue skies, warm sun - but in what seems to be becoming a tradition, the winter storms blew in as they arrived. We experienced very heavy rain and hailstorms for two days. Now we're back to blue skies, and I can barely look out of the window of my office for the dazzle of the morning sun. So far this semester just two news stories: staff return to the hillside, and students arrive. I can guarantee there will be much more to come. - Pete Wildman, Communications Manager.

Mela, Homecoming and Arts Festival  - May 12 - 15, 2010

The Spring Sale, or "Mela” will be held on 15th May 2010. Proceeds from this sale are donated to the Student Scholarship Endowment Fund – a fund which benefits students who would otherwise not have access to a high-quality international education such as Woodstock provides.

MELA is an important vehicle of goodwill, bringing people of our community together, particularly parents, alumni, local shopkeepers and now NGO's all of whom have an opportunity to participate and contribute. Invitations are sent to selected schools and local community members who are directly involved with Woodstock.

In order to make this fun as well as successful we will need your help. We need your ideas and donations of handicrafts and foods from your region of India. We even encourage you to come yourself and set up a stall that represents the part of India you come from through crafts or food. If you are unable to come, would you consider sending a handicraft donation for us to sell? It is a wonderful opportunity for you to participate with us in a most important event and to educate our students about your part of this wonderful country.

For those of you who live outside India, we are happy to accept donations of artifacts or any handicraft item from your part of the world. These items are sold at a general stall, and have traditionally added a great deal of variety and interest to the sale.

An Arts Festival has also been planned to precede the Mela from the 12th – 14th of May. We will send out information as soon as we have more details on participants etc.

Alumni Homecoming: 14th – 16th May.
